Mushroom Cultivation
Air Sterilisation for Healthier, More Productive Mushroom Cultivation Facilities
Cleaner Air for Higher Yields.
Mushroom growers face persistent challenges from airborne pathogens such as Trichoderma, Blotch, and Black Mould. ILIMEX technology reduces spore loads, protecting crops and maximising yields.
The Problem
-
Exotic Mushrooms for Medicines and Food Need to be Grown in a Sterile Environment.
Exotic mushrooms, such as Agaricus blazei Murill, Maitake, and Lion's Mane, need to be grown in a sterile environment to prevent contamination by other fungi, bacteria, or pathogens that could compromise their growth. Sterility ensures that the specific spores intended for cultivation dominate the substrate, leading to higher yields and better-quality mushrooms.
-
Safety and Efficacy of Medicinal Mushrooms is Paramount.
Without a sterile environment, unwanted microorganisms can compete with or even destroy the mushroom crop, leading to significant losses. Additionally, maintaining sterility is crucial for growing medicinal mushrooms, as any contamination could impact the safety and efficacy of the final product.
-
Spores from the Crop Cannot be Extracted to the Local Environment.
Mushroom spores must not be extracted from the grow house to prevent environmental contamination. The air handling system should be designed to eliminate spore viability, ensuring they don't spread, protecting local ecosystems, and maintaining a controlled growing environment.
The Solution
Flufence’s integration into air handling systems in other settings has demonstrated a significant decrease in airborne pathogens. It can provide the same benefits in food production/processing facilities. Our new trial in a mushroom growing facility based in Portadown and carried out in conjunction with JF McKenna and Elite Fungi.
Flufence will continuously inactivate airborne pathogens on each pass through the Ilimex Flufence
- Reduced pathogens and fungi – increased biosecurity.
- Controlled growing environment.
- Higher quality yields.
- Increases Growers Turnover.
- No extraction of spores to local environment.
- Protects local ecosystems.
